Getting Your UV Output Right
Here’s the deal: UV curing only works if your lamp is actually talking to your ink or adhesive. If the wavelengths don’t line up perfectly with the photoinitiator, you’re just wasting electricity. We build our lamps to hit those specific peaks. That way, your product cures fast enough to keep the line moving, but you don’t end up with a base layer that’s still wet.
Power, Heat, and the “Tacky” Problem
Think of wattage and voltage as the “punch” your lamp delivers. If the power is too low, you get that annoying Tacky feeling on the surface. But if you crank it too high? You’ll scorch your materials or watch them shrink right before your eyes. It’s a balancing act. We spend a lot of time tweaking the electrode positions and the gas fill. Why? Because we hate “cold spots.” You know the ones—those dead zones at the ends of the tube where cheap lamps just give up. We make sure the arc stays consistent from end to end.
The Gear That Actually Works
We use high-purity fused quartz. Most standard glass just blocks the wavelengths you actually need, which is basically useless. For the heavy-duty setups, we add reflectors. Instead of letting those photons bounce off your machine frame and vanish, we push them right back onto the workpiece. It’s just common sense. One thing to watch out for:Heat. High-wattage lamps get hot. Really hot. If your conveyor is moving slowly, that infrared heat can warp thin plastics. You’ve got to make sure your exhaust is actually pulling that heat away, or you’re going to see some ugly deformation.
